MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541030233 A) filed by Carborundum Universal Limited on March 28, 2025, for Biodegradable Polymer Composite With Enhanced Properties And Method Of Preparation.

Inventors include Sarath Kumar Painkal; Jabeen Fatima Manamkeri Jaffarali; Ponnarassery Sukumaran Jayan; Premnath Kunnath Nelloli; and Sivakumaran Maruvakkat Vasudevan.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a biodegradable polymer composite comprising a biodegradable polymer matrix, oxygen-functionalized graphene, and at least one stabilizing agent. The oxygen-functionalized graphene is uniformly dispersed throughout the polymer matrix by means of a controlled melt-mixing process. The resulting composite material exhibits significantly enhanced mechanical strength, thermal stability, and gas barrier properties compared to the neat biodegradable polymer. Furthermore, a method and a system for manufacturing the composite are provided, offering an industrially scalable, sustainable, and efficient solution to elevate the performance of biodegradable polymers for demanding commercial and industrial applications.
