The application for the patent was published on June 05, 2026, under issue no. 23/2026.
Abstract: Indian Patent Application No. 202441095143 TITLE: BIODEGRADABLE POLYMER–STARCH–ARECA FIBRE COMPOSITE PARTICULATES AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF ABSTRACT The present invention relates to biodegradable polymer–starch–areca fibre composite particulates (100) and a method of manufacture thereof. The composite comprises polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), starch having an amylose-to-amylopectin ratio of 60:30, areca fibre powder pre-treated with a coupling agent, bio-based polybutylene succinate (Bio-PBS), montmorillonite (MMT), glycerol, mineral oil, and stearic acid incorporated in predetermined weight ranges to achieve improved dispersion, interfacial bonding, and moulding-grade mechanical properties. The method includes sequential introduction of biopolymers through a biopolymer chamber (201), liquid additives through a liquid additive chamber (202), and fillers through side feeders (203), followed by homogenisation in a feeding channel (204), vacuum-assisted degassing via a vacuum pump (205), and extrusion through a round die nozzle (206) to produce continuous filaments subsequently pelletised into composite particulates. The invention provides a biodegradable, compostable particulate material exhibiting enhanced processability, dimensional stability, and controlled biodegradation suitable for thermoplastic applications.
