Abstract: Title : Biodegradable Nanocomposite Films from Areca Husk Fibres for Food Packaging The present invention relates to the development of biodegradable nanocomposite films utilizing areca husk fibres as a primary source of Nano cellulose. The method involves the extraction of Nano cellulose from agro-waste areca husk fibres through sequential alkali treatment, bleaching, acid hydrolysis, and sonication. The extracted Nano cellulose is incorporated into biopolymer matrices such as methyl cellulose or acetic acid, along with plasticizers like glycerine and sodium hydroxide, to produce a biodegradable film. The resulting nanocomposite films exhibit enhanced mechanical properties, thermal stability, antimicrobial activity, and biodegradability, making them suitable for food packaging and biomedical applications. Comprehensive characterization techniques, including FTIR, SEM, DSC, and XRD, confirm the film's improved properties. This invention provides an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic polymers, addressing environmental and food safety concerns.
