MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611052581 A) filed by Rajiv Gandhi Institute Of Petroleum Technology on April 24, 2026, for Biodegradable Nanocomposite Film And Method Of Fabricating Thereof.

Inventors include Dwivedi, Deepak; Pandey, Sujeet Kumar; Atal, Siddharth; and Upadhyay, Sankat Mochan.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: A biodegradable nanocomposite film and method of fabricating thereof is provided. The biodegradable nanocomposite film includes polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) incorporated with carbon quantum dots (CQDs) derived from biomass of Saccharum munja. The method of fabrication includes synthesizing CQDs via a hydrothermal process and uniformly dispersing within a PVA matrix to form a flexible film through solution casting. The resulting biodegradable nanocomposite film exhibits enhanced functional properties including ultraviolet (UV) blocking ability, antioxidant activity, and antibacterial performance against food spoilage microorganisms. The biodegradable nanocomposite film extends the shelf life of food products by reducing oxidation, microbial contamination, and UV- induced degradation. The disclosure provides a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastic packaging by utilizing renewable biomass and biodegradable polymer materials.
