Abstract: Title: Biodegradable Injectable Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide (VIP) Hydrogel for Localized Periodontal Regeneration A biodegradable injectable hydrogel composition for localized periodontal regeneration comprising; a biodegradable polymeric matrix, a Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) physically entrapped within the biodegradable polymeric matrix; and at least one crosslinking or gelling agent configured to form a three-dimensional hydrogel network after administration into a periodontal defect; wherein the biodegradable polymeric matrix comprising chitosan, gelatin, hyaluronic acid, alginate, and polyethylene glycol. The biodegradable injectable hydrogel composition, wherein the biodegradable polymeric matrix further comprising; 1.5% w/v of the chitosan, 5% w/v of the gelatin, 0.5% w/v of the hyaluronic acid, 1–3% w/v of alginate, 5–10% w/v of polyethylene glycol and 0.01–0.05% w/w of VIP in the final hydrogel composition. The biodegradable injectable hydrogel composition, wherein the crosslinking or gelling agent comprises at least one of ß-glycerophosphate, genipin, and calcium ions. FIG.1A
