Abstract: Biodegradable Banana Fibre Fragrance Pallet with Microencapsulated Essential Oils for Controlled Release This invention describes a biodegradable fragrance delivery pallet comprising microencapsulated essential oils distributed within a natural fibre-based composite matrix. Essential oils selected from eucalyptus, Ocimum tenuiflorum, Trachyspermum ammi, camphor oil derived from Lauraceae species, or combinations thereof are entrapped within calcium alginate microcapsules formed by ionic gelation of sodium alginate using calcium chloride. The microcapsules are incorporated into a mouldable matrix comprising pretreated banana fibres and a binder, and the matrix is shaped and dried to form a structurally stable fragrance pallet. Upon exposure to mild heating, the essential oil is gradually released by diffusion, softening, permeation, or partial rupture of the microcapsules, thereby providing sustained fragrance emission. The disclosed pallet reduces rapid volatilization of essential oils, utilizes agro-residue fibres, minimizes reliance on petroleum-derived fragrance carriers, and provides an environmentally sustainable alternative for air freshening, aromatherapy, indoor scenting, vehicle fragrance, and controlled aroma-diffusion applications.
