Inventors include Dr. Shrutika Kanad; Govind Suresh Devkar; and Sejal Mahavir Thole.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to biodegradable intelligent packaging materials based on plant derived polysaccharides incorporating one or more natural indicator components that provide a detectable response to changes in the condition of packaged products. The materials can be formed as flexible films or sheets using aqueous processing and food grade additives, and are suitable for contact with perishable food items. In preferred embodiments, the films exhibit mechanical properties compatible with flexible packaging, controlled moisture transmission, visual response to alterations in the packaged environment and antimicrobial behaviour against common spoilage microorganisms. The compositions are designed to be compostable or biodegradable under natural conditions and can be produced from renewable or waste derived raw materials. The invention further encompasses methods of manufacturing such intelligent films and their use in systems for monitoring the quality or freshness of packaged goods during storage and distribution.
