MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621097442 A) filed by Svkm'S Dr Bhanuben Nanavati College Of Pharmacy on August 12, 2026, for Biocompatible Dual-Phase Drug Delivery System.
Inventors include Dr Sujata Sawarkar; Ms Khushali Nathani; Mr Gaurav Pandey; and Dr Shubhada Mangrulkar.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to a biocompatible dual drug delivery system combining electrospun nanofibers with an injectable hydrogel for the regenerative treatment of volumetric muscle loss and associated wound healing. The system integrates nanofibers that mimic the extracellular matrix with an in situ gelling hydrogel that enables minimally invasive administration and controlled release. Quercetin and Azilsartan Medoxomil are incorporated as therapeutic agents for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and muscle-regenerative properties. The nanofibers provide structural support, high porosity, and sustained drug release, while the hydrogel enhances localized retention and synergistic healing activity. In vitro studies demonstrate controlled release kinetics, and in vivo evaluations confirm enhanced wound contraction, collagen deposition, vascularization, and reduced inflammatory cytokines.
