MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088563 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 21, 2026, for Biochar-Reinforced Modular Protective Cover For A Mobile Device And Method Of Manufacture.

Abstract: A modular protective cover for a mobile device, a biochar-reinforced composite and a method of manufacture are disclosed. The cover comprises, from the device- facing side outward, a shock-absorbing cushion of a carbon-dioxide-derived polyurethane, a structural core of biochar particles dispersed in a carbon-dioxide-derived polymer matrix, a thermal-dissipation grid, a micro-porous carbon adsorption layer, and a replaceable outer shell attached by a snap-fit and coloured with a pollution- derived carbon soot pigment. The layers cooperate so that the cushion and core distribute impact, the grid and core air channels vent heat, the adsorption layer captures volatile organic compounds, and the biochar both reinforces the core and stores carbon. The cover is made by pyrolysing agricultural waste to biochar, compounding it into the matrix, moulding the core, over-moulding the cushion, and assembling a replaceable shell.
