MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125329 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for Biochar Provenance Verification System And Method Using Paired Conversion-Yield And Optical- Reflectance Severity Determinations.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system (100) and method for verifying the declared feedstock and pyrolysis severity of a recovered biochar batch at a receiving location. A conversion yield of a tracked lot is admitted only when its pre- and post-conversion quantity acquisitions carry attestation records from an instrument registered to a party other than the declarant. An optical carbonisation index is formed from dry, unmounted, unpolished particles imaged (130) with an in-frame reflectance reference (125) and normalised for particle size. The yield response and carbonisation response of the declared class, which are of opposite sense, are inverted to give two severity determinations in degrees. Their disagreement, and their consensus departure from the declaration, govern a release signal, while per- particle dispersion detects blends. Every outcome reports the determined severity and ranked candidate conditions.
