The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The BioAmnio Retinal Reattachment System (BARRS) is an innovative biomedical device designed to revolutionize the treatment of retinal detachment. Inspired by the natural properties of the amniotic fluid sac, BARRS introduces a bioengineered, biocompatible sac that serves as an internal scaffold and fluid cushion to reattach and stabilize the retina. This unique system creates a nurturing environment that promotes retinal healing while preventing further detachment. Unlike current methods such as gas or silicone oil tamponade, BARRS is designed to be bioresorbable or long-term compatible, eliminating many complications associated with conventional techniques. This invention fulfills a significant unmet need in ophthalmic surgery, offering a safer, regenerative, and patient-friendly solution for retinal detachment treatment.
