MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611086596 A) filed by Maharishi Markandeshwar Deemed To Be University on July 15, 2026, for Bio-Enhanced Lemongrass Oil-Based Nanosponge Topical Gel For Enhanced Dermal Drug Delivery.

Inventors include Tanuj Sharma; Malkiet Kaur; and Manish Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a topical wound healing formulation comprising nanosponges encapsulating lemongrass oil dispersed in a pharmaceutically acceptable gel base for enhanced cutaneous repair. The nanosponges comprise porous polymeric carriers configured to encapsulate hydrophobic bioactive constituents, thereby providing sustained release, improved permeation, enhanced local retention and protection of the encapsulated oil from oxidative degradation and evaporation. The formulation further comprises jojoba oil to provide emollient, barrier-restorative and antioxidant properties that support epithelial regeneration. The invention also provides a method for preparing the oil-loaded nanosponges using polymeric crosslinking techniques followed by uniform dispersion of the nanosponges into the topical gel matrix. The resulting gel exhibits improved spreadability, stability and patient compliance, and promotes enhanced wound contraction, accelerated re- epithelialization, reduced microbial burden and improved collagen deposition, thereby making the formulation suitable for the management of cuts, burns, ulcers and other skin injuries.
