MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088552 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 21, 2026, for Bio-Based Core-Shell Temporary Stitching Thread With Chemically Triggered Decomposition And Activating Solution.
Inventor includes Versha Verma.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: A bio-based core-shell temporary stitching thread, an activating solution and a system are disclosed. The thread has a structural core of polylactic acid and a responsive outer layer of sodium alginate ionically crosslinked by calcium ions. The crosslinked outer layer is stable to water and humidity during handling and, unlike a water- soluble thread, does not dissolve in moisture, but is selectively decomposable by a matched activating solution. The activating solution comprises, by weight, an alginate lyase, a calcium-chelating agent such as sodium citrate, a plant-based surfactant and a pH buffer, the balance being water. The enzyme cleaves the alginate while the chelating agent removes the calcium crosslinks, the two acting together to collapse the outer layer, expose the core and cause the thread to detach cleanly without fabric damage.
