Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method of preparing a bifunctional electrode (200). The method comprises: depositing at least one layer of a scaffold element (204) on a substrate (202) under a first set of conditions; depositing a layer of a catalyst (206) on the scaffold-coated substrate under a second set of conditions to obtain the bifunctional electrode. The bifunctional electrode may be further subjected to post-treatment technique(s) under a third set of conditions. The present disclosure also provides a bifunctional electrode. The bifunctional electrode comprises a substrate, at least one layer of the scaffold element adapted for deposition on the substrate and a layer of the catalyst adapted for deposition on a surface of the scaffold-coated substrate.
