Abstract: A battery management system and a battery management method are provided. The battery management system according to the present invention comprises: a sensing unit configured to sense a state of a battery pack; and a control unit configured to set an initial wake-up timing and then perform a transition from a wake-up mode to a sleep mode, when completion of charging of the battery pack is identified in a state in which an electric vehicle is connected to a charger. The control unit is configured to, in response to the wake-up timing being reached while operating in the sleep mode, perform a transition to the wake-up mode and generate first monitoring information about the state of the battery pack. The control unit is configured to perform a transition to the sleep mode after setting a next wake-up timing on the basis of the first monitoring information.
