Abstract: This invention introduces a Battery Energy Storage Based DC Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DC-ll V R)lor renewable-encrgy -DC -pu vv cr -system37 de5igned-to • sustain . con stant_DC _load voltage amid solar intermittency and disturbances. The setup features a solar PV source linked to a SEPIC DC-DC converter for voltage boosting, a bidirectional DC-DC converter with battery storage, and dsPIC30F2010 microcontroller generating PWM pulses for both converters. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controller, trained via backpropagation, dynamically adjusts duty cycles based on reference DC voltage, actual voltage, and error signals to enable fast disturbance rejection and voltage stability. The system operates in three modes: Mode 1 (solar only) boosts 0.6 V PV input to 5.74 V DC bus (less efficient due to irradiance variability); Mode 2 (battery only) steps up 12 V battery to stable 36.3 V; and Mode 3 (hybrid solar + battery) maintains 36.3 V consistently, with the battery compensating for PV sags. Hardware validation via prototype confirms the DC-DVR's efficacy in compensating voltage sags, enhancing power quality, and ensuring reliable DC load operation. The ANN outperforms conventional methods with rapid response, superior disturbance rejection, and minimal fluctuations, while Mode 3 hybrid operation delivers optimal efficiency and reliability for renewable DC distribution systems.
