MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202644023187 A) filed by Nokia Technologies Oy on February 26, 2026, for Band-Substitute Reporting Mechanism For User Equipment In Wireless Communication Network.

Inventors include Jacobsen, Thomas Haaning; Nielsen, Kim; Ranta-Aho, Karri Markus; and Hejselbaek, Johannes.

The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.

Abstract: A technical solution is provided, which allows a UE and a network node to seamlessly change frequency bands or carriers for secondary cells (SCells) in a UE- supported band combination without having to interrupt communication service on every band or carrier. More specifically, a new UE capability is proposed, according to which the UE may report the so-called band-substitutes for each active SCell-related band to the network node, thereby allowing the network node to find out which band can replace another band by reusing the same UE hardware. This in turn allows the network node to know that when applying a certain band-substitute, only the replaced SCell-related band will need to be service-interrupted, and not the other SCell-related bands currently used by the UE.
