MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113430 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on September 22, 2026, for Banana Pseudostem-Based Bio-Assisted Dyeing Composition And Method For Dyeing Textile Substrates Using The Same.
Inventors include Rangarajan, Murali; and Nayar, Niksheeta.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a bio-assisted dyeing composition and method for dyeing textile substrates using banana pseudostem as a functional dyeing medium. The composition comprises 10 to 50 wt% of banana pseudostem, 0.1 to 10 wt% of at least one natural dye, and 50 to 90 wt% of water. The banana pseudostem is utilized in an unextracted form and is adapted to release phenolic and tannin-containing and other compounds in situ during dyeing, thereby facilitating dye uptake in the absence of externally added metallic mordants. The present disclosure further provides a method for dyeing a textile substrate comprising scouring a textile substrate, preparing a bio-assisted dye composition containing banana pseudostem, natural dye and water, and subjecting the substrate to dyeing under controlled temperature conditions to form a bio-assisted dye–fibre complex followed by washing and drying to obtain a dyed textile product. The invention provides a sustainable alternative to conventional dyeing processes by eliminating the need for metallic mordants while enabling efficient utilization of agricultural biomass.
