MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641097388 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on August 12, 2026, for Autonomous Self-Healing Pipeline Node For Detecting And Containing Fluid Leaks.
Inventors include Porkodi; Mohammed Kaif K; Gowtham S; and Pravin G.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: An autonomous self-healing pipeline node (108) for detecting and containing a fluid leak at a pipeline joint of a pipeline (110) is provided. The autonomous self-healing pipeline node (108) includes one or more acoustic sensors (206), a compression collar (216), an electric motor (214), one or more strain sensors (208), a communication interface (218), a memory (204), and at least one processor (202). The processor (202) is configured to receive vibration signals, perform a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to generate frequency-domain data, identify a high-frequency acoustic signature corresponding to a pressurized fluid leak, and verify the fluid leak using one or more adjacent pipeline nodes. The processor (202) progressively actuates the electric motor (214) to tighten the compression collar (216) until the acoustic signature reduces below a predetermined threshold and verifies successful locking of the compression collar (216) by correlating motor current and strain measurements.
