Abstract: ABSTRACT AUTONOMOUS ROBOTIC SYSTEM FOR GASEOUS HAZARD MAPPING AND STRUCTURAL DAMAGE DETECTION An autonomous hazard mapping apparatus includes a mobile platform (114) configured for traversing environments, a multi-modal sensor suite, and an embedded computing module (102) mounted on the mobile platform (114). The sensor suite includes a spatial mapping sensor (104), at least one gas sensor configured to detect gaseous hazard concentrations, and a camera. The embedded computing module (102) includes a sensor fusion node configured to generate a unified situational model, a simultaneous localization and mapping module, a hazard detection module (106) configured to identify gaseous hazards, and a movement controller (110). A multi-layered hazard map (200) stored in memory includes an environmental map layer (202) with spatial occupancy data and a hazard overlay layer (208) with a three-dimensional gas concentration field (210).
