Abstract: An autonomous robot navigation system couples movement selection with action-value learning through consistent enforcement of spatial boundary constraints. The system represents a navigation region as an occupancy grid containing a robot position, a destination, and stationary or repositionable obstacles. For each current state, a constraint-processing mechanism identifies movements that remain within the grid and restricts both exploratory and reward-maximizing action selection to those movements. Following a transition, the mechanism determines admissible actions at the resulting state and applies the corresponding restriction to the Bellman update, preventing untouched values associated with inadmissible movements from distorting learned navigation preferences. A reward structure combines destination attainment, obstacle penalties, and movement costs, while a decaying exploration schedule progressively favors accumulated navigation experience. Coupled constraint enforcement suppresses boundary-induced learning artifacts and supports compact tabular navigation policies without requiring a neural-network inference engine.
