Abstract: The current invention is connected with self-organising multi-layer sensor fusion mesh network to perimeter intrusion detection and edge-based classification of threats to be identified in real-time. The system includes a plurality of distributed intelligent sensor nodes which are distributed along a secure boundary with each sensor node being a combination of a seismic vibration sensor, a passive infrared sensor, an acoustic sensing module and a thermal sensing unit. The nodes also have an embedded processing unit that is set to do signal conditioning, feature extraction and multi-modal sensor fusion and machine learning based classification to differentiate between human motion, animal movement, vehicle motion and underground intrusion. These sensor nodes are linked together by a self-organizing wireless mesh architecture of communication with the ability of dynamic path reconfiguration in case of node failure, obstruction, and tampering, and hence maintaining continuous perimeter coverage. The system is also designed to send only classified intrusion alerts to a central surveillance station in order to minimize the bandwidth to be used in communication and false alarms. Optional energy harvesting and adaptive power management mechanisms enable long-term deployment in remote or infrastructure- limited terrains. The invention provides enhanced detection accuracy, reduced false positives, improved fault tolerance, and energy-efficient operation for securing borders, critical infrastructure, and high-risk installations.
