MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075066 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on June 17, 2026, for Autonomous Mobile Robot For Detection Of Gas Leakage.

Inventors include Reena Roy R; Valarmathi K; Rohan Sudheer; and Dhaanya Rajan Nair.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an autonomous mobile robot (100) for detection of gas leakage, including a motorized platform (120), a gas sensor (104) positioned on the motorized platform (120) to detect a set of gas data, and a control unit (202) operatively coupled to the motorized platform (120) and the gas sensor (104). The control unit may be caused to receive a user-defined path for a gas delivery pipeline, identify one or more waypoints based on the user-defined path, navigate the autonomous mobile robot (100) to the one or more waypoints by actuating the motorized platform (120), detect the set of gas data by the gas sensor during navigation, The control unit (202) determine a gas exposure parameter and to identify a gas leakage condition based on a gas exposure thresholds, thereby enabling real-time monitoring, location-specific detection, and mitigation of gas leakage.
