MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125328 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for Autonomous Hybrid-Charged Agricultural Machine And Method For Ploughing-Derived Soil- Informed Variable-Rate Sowing.

Inventors include Kauser Ahmed P; and Vineth A.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an autonomous agricultural machine (100) and method for ploughing and soil-informed variable-rate sowing on small holdings. A prime mover (110) drives the wheels through a chain final drive (112) that also drives a dynamo (114), which with a solar canopy (120) charges a common battery bus (130). During an autonomous ploughing pass along a coverage path, a controller (150) holds ploughing depth in closed loop using soil electrical conductivity and hitch load cell signals (194), and also logs those signals against RTK position. The controller builds an on-board zone map (332) by classifying path segments into soil zones, each with a seed-rate multiplier. After the farmer selects a crop and confirms the hopper is filled, the machine re-traverses the same path, metering each row (204) at the crop baseline rate multiplied by the zone multiplier, synchronised to ground speed (220).
