MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641100905 A) filed by Jain Deemed-To-Be University on August 20, 2026, for Autonomous Hospital Waste Segregation System.

Inventor includes Dr. Muralidhar L B.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: An autonomous hospital waste segregation system, comprising a waste intake assembly including a plurality of source specific chutes 101, a sensor based characterization tunnel a radiation detection stage 105 to identify ionizing radiation in waste items, a dedicated radioactive waste handling assembly to transfer radioactive waste items to a plasma sterilization chamber 108 and subsequently to a graphite isolation chamber 109, a dual-stage shredding unit 110 to reduce non-radioactive waste into fine fragments, , a near-infrared (NIR) sorting module configured to classify remaining waste into organic and inorganic categories using a trained convolutional neural network and to direct each category to separate treatment lines, a secure audit module configured to assign a cryptographic hash to each waste batch at intake and to store processing data including classification results, radiation detection status, routing decisions, and treatment records in a tamper evident ledger.
