Abstract: An automatic winder (1) includes more than one winding unit (10) and a machine base controlling section (50). Each winding unit (10) unwinds a yarn from a yarn feeding bobbin (21) and winds the yarn unwound to form a package (22). The machine base controlling section (50) receives a preparation command for a lot change, which is an operation of changing the package (22) to be formed by the winding unit (10) from an old 10 lot to a new lot. The machine base controlling section (50) includes an instruction value inputting section (58) for inputting an instruction value related to a preparation for the lot change. When the machine base controlling section (50) receives the preparation command for the lot change with the instruction value having been input to the instruction value inputting section (58), the machine base controlling section (50) determines, based on the 15 instruction value, a continuing unit, which is the winding unit (10) that is to continue winding the yarn, and a stopping unit, which is the winding unit (10) that is to discontinue winding the yarn and stop.
