Abstract: An automatic measuring device 1 emits a laser beam toward a plurality of laser irradiation points D1 that surround a portion to be measured T of a workpiece W, and determines whether a reflection-undetected point D1b out of the plurality of laser irradiation points D1, which is other than a laser irradiation point D1a from which reflected light of the laser beam is detected, is present or not. In a case in which the reflection-undetected point D1b is present, the device 1 sets a scanning-center point CTR at a position shifted in relation to a reference point C of the portion to be measured T in a direction toward the reflection-undetected point D1b, and scans a surface Wa of the workpiece W along a plurality of scanning lines L1 passing through the scanning-center point CTR to detect a plurality of end-edge points E1 of the portion to be measured T. The device 1 changes a position of the reference point C based on positions of the plurality of end-edge points E1, and measure the portion to be measured T using an changed reference point C’, which is the reference point having been changed.
