Abstract: The invention pertains to an Automatic Gas Leak Detection and Safety Control System to detect leakage of combustible gases and implement safety measures automatically through Internet of Things (IoT) technology. It consists of a gas sensing unit, a microcontroller unit, wireless communication module, cloud based monitoring platform, local alert unit and automatic safety control unit. The gas sensing unit monitors the gas concentration of the combustible gases like Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Methane, Propane, Hydrogen and smoke continuously. The sensed data from the unit is processed by the microcontroller unit to estimate the concentration of the gas and compare the readings with pre-defined safety and critical threshold levels. When gas leakage occurs, the system automatically sounds alarm, sends emergency message to authorized persons through IoT platform and implements safety procedures by switching on exhaust ventilation fan and electronically operated gas shut off valve using a relay module. The system also maintains the sensor data in the cloud platform in real time as well as historical basis. This invention will enable continuous monitoring of the environment, quick detection of leakage, automatic implementation of emergency measures, reduction in human intervention, increased reliability of the system, and more protection against fire, explosion and gas exposure.
