MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611109161 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Uttarakhand on September 11, 2026, for Automated Workflow For Converting Architectural Autocad Drawings Into Staad.pro Structural Models.
Inventor includes Mohammad Aasim.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for converting architectural AutoCAD drawings into STAAD.Pro structural models. A workflow utilizes customized AutoCAD LISP scripts to automatically process two-dimensional architectural drawings and generate analysis-ready three-dimensional structural models. The process comprises isolating structural geometries from architectural layouts, detecting and managing intersections, calculating geometric centroids of structural elements to establish structural nodes, and generating centerlines between aligned centroid points to form a structural skeleton. The workflow further enables automatic alignment and vertical stacking of multiple floor plans using user-defined floor heights to create multi-storey three-dimensional structural models. Connectivity of nodes and members is validated through intersection verification and alignment tolerance checks prior to export. The validated model is repositioned, optimized, and exported in a format suitable for direct import into STAAD.Pro, thereby eliminating manual structural modeling, reducing design time, improving geometric accuracy, and enhancing interoperability between architectural drafting and structural analysis environments.
