MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641119837 A) filed by Ifet College Of Engineering on October 07, 2026, for Automated Waste Segregation And Monitoring System With Embedded Machine Learning.

Inventors include Mrs. P. Thulasi; Ms. S. Maduvanthi; Mrs. M. Radhika; and S. Krishnakanth.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an automated waste segregation and monitoring system for image-based classification, physical segregation and fill-level monitoring of waste. The system comprises an image acquisition and embedded processing module (102) having a camera (104) for acquiring an image of waste received at a waste receiving portion (108) and locally executing a trained machine-learning model to classify the waste without remote classification processing. A microcontroller (106) controls a servo motor (112) to position a waste directing gate (110) according to the determined waste category and direct the waste into a corresponding waste receptacle (114, 116, 118). Ultrasonic fill-level sensors (120, 122, 124) independently determine fill levels of the respective waste receptacles. A wireless communication interface (126) communicates fill-level information for remote monitoring and alerts. The system enables locally determined waste classification to control physical segregation while providing receptacle-specific remote fill-status monitoring.
