MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641103825 A) filed by Chennai Institute Of Technology on August 28, 2026, for Automated Tomato Harvesting Robot For Agriculture.

Inventors include Dr. S. Chandravadhana; Tarun Raghavender. V; and Sanjit. U. G.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The titled invention discloses a tomato harvesting bot comprising a vision sensing module (1), embedded controller (2), mobile robotic platform with drive motors (3), robotic arm and gripper mechanism (4), sorting and routing mechanism (5), ripe and unripe tomato baskets (6), tomato counting module (7), and power supply unit (8). The vision sensing module (1) captures images of tomato plants and the configured image processing and artificial intelligence functions detect and classify tomatoes as ripe or unripe. The embedded controller (2) coordinates movement of the mobile robotic platform (3) and robotic arm and gripper mechanism (4) for selectively picking ripe tomatoes. The harvested tomatoes are directed by the sorting and routing mechanism (5) into respective baskets (6), while the tomato counting module (7) records the number of tomatoes deposited in each basket. The integrated arrangement enables automated harvesting, gentle handling, sorting, and real-time counting of tomatoes in greenhouse and open-field environments.
