Abstract: An automated system for performing optical interference experiments comprises a base platform 101 having a plurality of actuators 102 at corners to reduce unwanted vibrations, a touch-screen display unit 103 for selecting experiment modes including wavelength measurement and refractive index calculation, a dual light source unit 104 including a monochromatic laser and a tunable multi-colour VIBGYOR light source mounted on a motorized sliding means, a beam splitter unit 105 optical path includes a movable carousel holding multiple beam splitters coated for different wavelengths, a measurement arm 106 and a reference arm 107 extend from the beam splitter, each having a mirror, where the measurement mirror is mounted on a movable stage and the reference mirror on an automatically adjustable angular mount, a sealed gas chamber 109 connected to a gas supply unit, a digital image sensor 108, and a network of sensors enable stabilization, monitoring, and comparison with theoretical data.
