Abstract: This work presents the design and development of a smart shopping trolley intended to make the in-store shopping process quicker and more convenient. Instead of relying on traditional billing counters, the system automatically keeps track of items as they are placed inside the trolley and updates the total cost in real time. A camera module is used to recognize products based on their visual features, while load cells are integrated to measure the weight of the items for additional verification. This combination helps in reducing errors by checking whether the identified product matches the actual item added, and if any mismatch is detected, the system provides an immediate alert to the user. All processing is handled by an embedded unit, which continuously updates the bill and sends the information to a tablet-based interface, allowing users to view their running total during shopping. A motion sensor is also included so that the system activates only when activity is detected, helping in efficient operation. Overall, the system is designed keeping practical use in mind and can be applied in supermarkets to reduce checkout waiting time and improve the overall shopping experience.
