Abstract: [041] The present invention relates to an automated sensor-based silt detection, collection and discharge device for canal and drainage systems. The device comprises a silt collection chamber positioned at or near a bed region of a water channel, at least one sediment level sensor for detecting silt accumulation, a programmable control unit for processing sensor signals, and a mechanical conveying mechanism for removing collected silt when a predetermined threshold is reached. The conveying mechanism may include a screw conveyor, scraper arrangement or bucket elevator that transfers silt to a discharge chute or disposal location outside the active flow path. The device enables periodic and automatic desilting while allowing continued water flow through the canal or drain. The system may be powered through electrical or solar-based power arrangements and can be retrofitted into existing irrigation and drainage infrastructure.
