MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641079357 A) filed by Sabah Afroze; Dr. Tamil Selvi; and Dr. Parisa Beham on June 27, 2026, for Automated Placental Abnormality Detection System Using Prenatal Imaging.

Inventors include Sabah Afroze; Dr. Tamil Selvi; and Dr. Parisa Beham.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an Automated Placental Abnormality Detection System Using Prenatal Imaging designed to facilitate early identification, classification, and monitoring of placental disorders during pregnancy through advanced medical image analysis and artificial intelligence technologies. Placental abnormalities such as placenta previa, placenta accreta spectrum disorders, placental insufficiency, placental abruption, chorioangioma, abnormal placental thickness, and vascular malformations are major contributors to maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality worldwide. The proposed system integrates prenatal imaging modalities including ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound, three-dimensional ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and other fetal imaging techniques with machine learning and deep learning algorithms for automated placental assessment. The system comprises an image acquisition module, image preprocessing engine, placental segmentation module, abnormality detection engine, risk stratification module, and clinical decision support platform. Acquired prenatal images are processed to identify placental boundaries, morphology, thickness, vascular architecture, implantation characteristics, blood flow patterns, and tissue texture features. Artificial intelligence models trained on large-scale annotated prenatal datasets analyze these features to detect and classify placental abnormalities with high sensitivity and specificity. The system further predicts potential maternal and fetal complications by correlating imaging findings with gestational age, maternal health indicators, and historical clinical data. Cloud-enabled infrastructure facilitates remote monitoring, telemedicine consultations, and integration with electronic health records. Automated alerts and diagnostic reports assist obstetricians in making timely clinical decisions and optimizing pregnancy management strategies. The invention provides a non-invasive, standardized, scalable, and cost-effective solution for prenatal placental evaluation, improving diagnostic accuracy, reducing observer variability, enhancing maternal-fetal healthcare outcomes, and supporting precision obstetric medicine through intelligent image- guided decision support.
