Abstract: Abstract Disclosed is an automated gemstone processing system comprising a scanning station having an optical access axis, a cutting station having a cutting tool axis, and a gemstone holding and registration module transferable between the scanning station and the cutting station while retaining a raw gemstone. The module comprises a datum plate, a gemstone receiving nest supported by the datum plate, lower datum supports, lateral locating members, a multi-axis indexing stage, and a kinematic docking interface. The lower datum supports and lateral locating members define a contact-free sector extending from the raw gemstone to an exterior side of the module. The kinematic docking interface docks the datum plate at the scanning station and cutting station while preserving angular orientation of the contact-free sector, so that the sector aligns with the optical access axis during scanning and with the cutting tool axis during cutting without releasing the raw gemstone.
