MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541021689 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on March 11, 2025, for Automated Calibration And Testing System For Radar Altimeter.

Inventors include R. Jayanthi; and Ch. Deekshitha.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: Automated Calibration and Testing System for Radar Altimeter (10) using USB-Based Instrumentation is a bench-top verification system to ensure proper functionality and calibration of Radio Altimeters. The altitude simulation unit (3) incorporating a fiber optic delay device to emulate altitudes up to 20,000 feet. The digital interface modules with USB connectivity, supporting MIL-STD-1553B (5), ARINC-429 (4), and RS422/485 (6) protocols and a central processing unit (9) with USB integration to ensure reliable multi-device communication and consistent device identification captures, records, and analyzes various outputs, including analog signals and digital communications to verify altimeter performance against predefined standards. The system integrates a suite of cost-effective, compact instruments interconnected via USB, forming a cohesive, automated test setup. By simulating altitude conditions from 0 to 20,000 feet and path loss characteristics, this system offers a comprehensive solution for testing the accuracy of Radio Altimeters.
