Inventors include Prof. Zarina Shaikh; Prof. Sunita Patil; Mr. Ajit Chavan; Mr. Arpit Deosthale; Mr. Pratik Shinde; and Mr. Aditya Kotewar.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: This project suggests a comprehensive Automated Attendance Management System based on facial recognition technology for effective, precise, and secure attendance marking in educational institutions. Manual roll calls or RFID/card-based attendance methods are typically time-consuming, prone to errors, and susceptible to abuse such as proxy attendance. To address these issues, the system implemented has a real-time image processing module that can detect and identify students' faces using advanced computer vision algorithms. Through automated marking of attendance based on face recognition, the system reduces the scope of human intervention significantly, makes class administration easy, and enhances institutional transparency. An idiosyncratic innovation in this system is that it offers a way of breaking away from conventional classroom rolls by providing an expert module of student participation at college clubs and extracurricular activities. Official activities have numerous students enrolled that are inherent to their scholarship and deserve the consideration of attendances. Participation is usually unheard or needs hand-holding efforts on the part of event management. The solution filling this gap does so through an intelligent attendance element that automatically records students participating in registered events or clubs. It does this through the integration with institutional calendars, student records, and event scheduling tools to track attendance against measures like event calendars, club participation records, physical presence at the event locations, and preestablished student positions (e.g., organizer, volunteer, participant). The system also supports the generation of comprehensive attendance reports which include both classroom and extracurricular participation. These reports can help faculty members, administrative officials, and students themselves monitor attendance performance, stay eligible for exams or activities, and ensure equitable credit allocation for co-curricular participation. The platform is also designed to be scalable and interoperable. It can easily be integrated into any current campus management systems or installed independently in institutions of any size, from schools, colleges, training institutions, to universities. Moreover, the project provides a basis for potential enhancements through introducing features such as smartphone application integration, GPS-based geotagging for place-based authentication, cloud storage capabilities, and behavior analysis using artificial intelligence to predict student disengagement or deviance. Through the fusion of facial recognition technology with smart automation and activity monitoring, this system aims to enhance attendance management, increase student accountability, and allow for overall education administration.
