Abstract: AUGMENTED REALITY BUS NAVIGATION SYSTEM USING OCR-BASED BUS IDENTIFICATION The present invention relates to a mobile-based augmented reality navigation system for public bus transport. The system comprises an Android application configured to capture a bus image through a mobile device camera and a FastAPI backend configured to process the captured image using a two-stage computer vision pipeline. A first YOLOv8n model detects and extracts a license plate region from the captured image, while a second YOLOv8n model recognizes alphanumeric characters to generate a vehicle registration string. The generated string is validated using an Indian vehicle registration pattern and matched with route information stored in a SQLite database. The system retrieves route details, destination information, upcoming stops, and estimated time of arrival (ETA), and displays the retrieved information as a real-time augmented reality overlay for automatic bus identification and navigation guidance.
