Abstract: The present invention concerns an intelligent communication framework for Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) to reliably and efficiently communicate medical data in real-time healthcare monitoring systems while being aware of the delay. In particular, the invention provides for a new routing protocol, called Adaptive Threshold Priority with Multi-Metric Dynamic Routing (ATP-MMDR), that utilizes Al, adaptive priority scheduling, multi-parameter routing optimization, and predictive congestion avoidance to enhance medical data delivery. To overcome the limitations of conventional, WBAN routing protocols based on static routing decision or a single routing metric, the proposed ATP-MMDR framework utilizes an adaptive priority engine which has the capability of dynamically categorizing physiological data based on medical severity, patient condition, sensor type, contextual health status, and permissible transmission delay. The protocol also includes a multi-metric routing decision engine that considers the residual energy, queue occupancy, wireless link stability, packet error probability, interference level, hop distance, node temperature, transmission reliability and the historical forwarding performance. One of the key innovations of the invention is the Al-powered Predictive Congestion Intelligence Engine (PCIE) that leverages lightweight edge intelligence to continuously analyse temporal network behaviour. The proposed system is not concerned with congestion after it happens, but rather predicting congestion prior to packet accumulation based upon a number of factors: historical queue variations, transmission intervals, channel utilization, and patient activity patterns. To base on this prediction, the routing is modified proactively to avoid the bottleneck nodes. Further, a Digital Health Priority Score (DHPS) and Dynamic Network Health Index (DNHI) are introduced to jointly evaluate the patient criticality and the network conditions to enable optimal packet scheduling and forwarding strategies. The proposed invention greatly improves packet delivery ratio, reduces end-to-end latency, reduces packet loss rate, saves energy usage and extends WBAN lifetime and ensures reliable transmission of emergency medical information. Jt is especially well suited for wearable health care or in-body health care devices, implantable sensors, remote patient monitoring, telemedicine, smart hospitals, elderly care, emergency response, military health care, and next-generation AI integrated medical Internet of Things (loMT) applications.
