MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611086419 A) filed by Chandigarh University on July 15, 2026, for Artificial Intelligence Driven Wearable Auricular System For Predictive Drowsiness Detection.
Inventors include Dr. Ankita Sharma; and Bebesh Tripathy.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a wearable drowsiness detection and intervention system for vehicle operators configured to predict and mitigate fatigue-related driving risks. The system comprises an auricular wearable housing incorporating a multi-modal sensor array for continuously monitoring physiological and motion-related parameters including heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation, and head movement. An onboard processing unit employing artificial intelligence generates individualized physiological profiles, predicts drowsiness probability, and forecasts impending microsleep events before visible behavioral symptoms occur. Upon detection of elevated drowsiness, a bone conduction alert mechanism delivers adaptive stimuli while preserving environmental hearing. The system further performs closed-loop response verification and establishes bidirectional communication with a vehicle electronic control system to enable coordinated safety actions including warning generation, speed reduction, lane assistance, and controlled vehicle intervention. The disclosed invention provides an integrated, predictive, and personalized driver safety platform that significantly enhances early drowsiness detection and accident prevention.
