Abstract: The present invention relates to a precision irrigation system for sustainable field crop management. Conventional irrigation controllers compute decisions at remote cloud servers, introducing communication latency that prevents closed-loop response to transient soil-water flux events. The disclosed system comprises a field node (100) housing a dielectric soil moisture probe (101), a thermal canopy radiometer (102), and an analog front-end (103) that multiplexes their outputs into a sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (104) for phase-coherent acquisition. An embedded neural processing accelerator (105) executes a gated recurrent inference model (106) at the field edge, writing a confidence value to an inference confidence register (108). A hardware watchdog circuit (107) physically opens a normally-closed solid-state relay (109) in series with a valve actuator (110) whenever the confidence value falls below a hardware threshold. The system enables sub-second edge-localised irrigation control with deterministic actuator safety and is industrially applicable to semi-arid field crop cultivation.
