Abstract: The future 6G communication networks should be equipped with intelligent antenna systems that are able to adapt themselves to the very dynamic wireless environment, utilise the terahertz (THz) spectrum, utilise ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output (UM- MIMO), use integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), and support AI-native network architectures. The present invention proposes an artificial intelligence-based self-reconfigurable antenna system for future 6G communication networks that integrates deep learning, reinforcement learning, digital twin technology, edge intelligence and software-defined radio (SDR) to facilitate the real-time autonomous optimisation of the antennas. The proposed framework will constantly gather data related to the wireless channel, user mobility, interference, traffic and environment to intelligently predict optimal antenna configuration. The system dynamically reconfigures operating frequency, beam direction, radiation pattern, polarisation, gain and impedance matching, based on artificial intelligence decision-making, for optimal spectral efficiency, coverage, communication reliability, minimal latency and minimal power consumption. A digital twin continuously models the performance of an antenna and tests antenna configuration before actual implementation to enhance reliability and optimise time. The framework also introduces Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) for transparent optimisation decisions and federated learning for collaborative model training without compromising network privacy. The seamless integration with future 6G AI-native infrastructures is achieved by compatibility with intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS), reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), semantic communications and Open Radio Access Networks (O-RAN). Experimental evaluation shows that this beamforming system has higher beamforming accuracy and greater immunity to interference than the conventional reconfigurable antenna system, with higher energy efficiency, throughput and adaptive communication performance. In summary, the present invention provides an intelligent antenna architecture for next-generation 6G wireless communication ecosystems that is scalable, autonomous and future-proof.
