Inventors include Aadil Shakil Khatik; Santhosh Pothana; Kedar R. Purandare; and Praveen P. Kurvey.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed is an arc runner (50) for a low voltage switchgear (100). The arc runner (50) redirects an electric arc (90) onto itself when the contacts are fully open and the electric arc (90) persists thereby mitigating the adverse effects of arcing on a moving contact (18). A double brake system is utilized in the present invention i.e., combined arrangement of an arc chute assembly (40) along with the arc runner (50) that improves the overall performance of the switchgear (100). The arc runner (50) achieves effective arc quenching and diminishes contact erosion thereby prolonging the lifespan of the switching device and enhancing breaking capacity thereof at higher supply voltages. The arc runner (50) enhances the operational efficiency of the switch while minimizing the potential damage caused by arcing, thus contributing to improved equipment reliability and longevity.
