Abstract: Abstract 10 15 Passive acoustic monitoring has become one of the most effective ways to study and understand marine ecosystems on a larger scale. Unlike traditional field surveys that are often limited by time and location, this work introduces a practical system that identifies marine species using underwater recordings from 15 different animals along with natural ocean background sounds. We designed a simple processing setup that extractS-60 Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) sound features and uses the Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) model as the main classifier. The system achieved an accuracy of 0.846 and outperformed other evaluated models. The results indicate that accurate classification depends on effective feature selection and appropriate model design rather than merely on increasing data capacity. Overall, this framework forms a strong base for real-time marine biodiversity monitoring and helps move sound-based research closer to real- world ocean observation. The proposed framework directly supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 (Life Below Water) by enabling non-invasive and continuous monitoring of marine biodiversity
