MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621052607 A) filed by Sage University on April 24, 2026, for Apparatus For Portable Forensic Acquisition Of Digital Storage Media With Chain Of Custody Documentation.

Inventors include Dr. Prashant Jain; Ms. Sakshi Agrawal; Dr. Mukesh Kumar Malviya; Prof. Siddharth Nath Gautam; Prof. Savita Rathod; Shubhi Pandey; and Chandrapal Rajput.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to portable forensic acquisition of digital storage media. The apparatus (100) includes a multi-interface storage bridge (102) that blocks write-modifying commands directed toward suspect storage media while permitting read-category commands to pass unmodified. A microprocessor (104), operatively coupled to the multi-interface storage bridge (102), detects physical insertion of suspect storage media via a device presence signal and automatically configures the bridge (102) in write-blocking mode. The microprocessor (104) coordinates direct memory access data transfer of forensic image data to an internal storage device while concurrently computing cryptographic hash digests. The apparatus (100) further determines tampering from a radio frequency response of a radio frequency identification transponder (110). Timestamped custody records comprising the computed cryptographic hash digests are generated and stored with a hardware-generated digital signature in write-once memory in an immutable format, ensuring integrity of chain of custody documentation throughout the forensic acquisition process.
