Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for facilitating removal of a bottle cap from a bottle, the apparatus comprising, a bottle-holding assembly configured to secure a bottle in a fixed position. The system comprises a cap-detection assembly configured to determine presence of a cap on a neck portion of the bottle while the bottle is secured. the system also comprises a cutting assembly comprising a cutting tool movable in a substantially vertical direction relative to the cap. A controller is operatively coupled to the cap-detection assembly and the cutting assembly, wherein the controller is configured to, in response to the determined presence of the cap, actuate the cutting assembly to form at least one substantially vertical cut through a sidewall of the cap to weaken the cap for subsequent extraction.
