Abstract: ABSTRACT An apparatus for portable toxicological screening of biological samples includes a test card holder (102) that receives a lateral flow test card (104) having a plurality of detection zones (106) and outputs a card insertion signal. An optical measurement assembly (108) sequentially illuminates each detection zone (106) at periodic intervals throughout an enzymatic development period, generating a time-resolved reflectance signal set. A microcontroller (110) with non-volatile memory (112) stores substrate-specific baseline reflectance values and a predetermined threshold. The microcontroller (110) initiates optical measurements, determines reflectance change values per detection zone (106), and generates a detection result record indicating presence or absence of a target drug analyte. Results are stored in a storage register (114) and transmitted via a wireless communication modem (116) to a recipient device (118) upon network availability, enabling reliable drug screening at the point of biological sample collection independent of continuous network connectivity.
