Abstract: A method is described that includes receiving an operating system update for installation on a customer premises device, the operating system update including a first version of the operating system, determining if the first version of the operating system matches requirements for at least one of current media content consumption characteristics of a customer using the customer premises device and current operational performance of the customer premises device, identifying a second version of the operating system if it is determined that the first version of the operating system does not match the requirements for the at least one of the current media content consumption characteristics and the current operational performance, and installing the second version of the operating system as part of the operating system update. Further, a communication apparatus is described that is configured to carry out the steps of the method as described above.
