MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621058352 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Gandhinagar on May 07, 2026, for Apparatus And Method For Generating A Streamflow Forecast.
Inventors include Solanki; Gupta, Sayuj; Annamalai, Aravinthakshan Sivakumaran; and Mishra, Vimal.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR GENERATING A STREAMFLOW FORECAST The present disclosure relates to a method (100) and an apparatus (200) for generating a stream-flow forecast (101) are disclosed. The method comprises receiving hydro-meteorological time series data and upstream hydrological observations, processing the data using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) module to generate hidden states, and applying a multi-head attention mechanism to dynamically weight temporal features. Attention-weighted representations are processed through one or more dense layers to generate a stream-flow forecast for one or more lead times. In an embodiment, hierarchical features derived from upstream observations and a rating curve-based fitter module are incorporated to enhance prediction accuracy and physical consistency. The method further supports sequential multi-horizon forecasting by utilizing prior predictions as inputs for subsequent forecasts. The apparatus executes the method to provide accurate and reliable short-term stream-flow predictions, enabling improved flood forecasting, early warning, and water resource management under varying hydrological conditions.
